GMOS
The two Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs are near-identical instruments built for the twin Gemini telescopes. It is a versatile instrument for optical spectroscopy. As a multi-object spectrograph, GMOS is capable of obtaining dozens of spectra in one ‘snapshot’. The ability to deliver high-resolution images is a secondary function.
Features
- 3 EEV chips with 20488x4068 pixels in a row
- pixel size 13.5 square, 0.073 arcsec/pixel
- direct imaging mode available
- long and multi-slit spectroscopy 0.36-1.10μm
- 5.5 arcminute field of view
- integral-field spectroscopy (generating independent spectra simultaneously of a two-dimensional array of contiguous positions on the sky) area of 35 square arcsec and sampling at 0.2arcsec
